Set in the small town of Stars Hollow Connecticut, Gilmore Girls was, and still is, a family friendly show that doesn't follow any of the normal family show conventions.

Lorelai had Rory at 16 before moving herself and her daughter out of her parents house to the small town of Stars Hollow.

Finding her way to the local inn, Lorelai quickly secured a job and found herself under the wing of the inn's owner, Mia.While Lorelai's relationship with her parents was strained before she became pregnant, after moving to Stars Hollow it became almost non-existant.

All that changed, however, when Rory was accepted into the prestigious prep school, Chilton, at 16.Unable to come up with tuition in the short time given, Lorelai is forced to turn to her parents, Richard and Emily Gilmore, for financial help. After agreeing to aweekly phone calls and Friday night dinners, Lorelai secures the money and Emily secures her rights to be in her daughter and granddaughters life.

As the series progressed, Mother and daughter began to grow. Sometimes this was for the best and other times it was for the worst. The pair weathered romance and heart break, illness and misunderstandings, seperations (Emily and Richards as well as their own), failures and graduations.While Lorelai and Rory weren't the traditional television family, they were one of hte most realistic families on television.
