Lorelai is the daughter of Emily and Richard Gilmore. After having daughter Rory at 16, Lorelai moved to Stars Hollow to find her own way in the world. now, with Rory turning 16 and finding her own way in the world, Lorelai is beginning to see a world, a frightening but exciting world, where Rory is no longer constantly by her side.

Rory is the daughter of Lorelai Gilmore and Christopher Hayden. With her father out of the picture for most of her life, Rory and her mother became best friends. The two couldn't be more different, especially since Rory seems to act more like the grown up in the family at times than Lorelai does. As Rory prepares to enter the eliteChilton Prep school on the path to Harvard, she must also prepare to enter a life without her mother by her side 24/7.

Luke Danes was born and raised in Stars Hollow, along with his sister Liz. His mother died when he was young and his father died not long after that. Unable to leave town, or leave his father's memory behind, Luke converted his father's hardware shop into a diner. Luke's Diner has quickly become a staple in Stars Hollow and a lifeline to Lorelai and Rory. With Rory growing up, with the not so secret 'thing' Luke has for Lorelai finally come to be?

Sookie is Lorelai's best friend and head chef first at the Independence in and later at The Dragonfly Inn. Sookie is an amazing chef and more than a little accident prone.

Christopher is Rory's father and Lorelai's high school sweet heart. While he does mean well and loves both Rory and Lorelai, Christopher has an issue with commitment and has a bad habit of taking off to parts unknown when the going gets tough.

Emily is Lorelai's mother and arch nemesis. Emily is very rich and very concerned about status and outward appearances. Her inability to control and understand Lorelai is a large sticking place in their relationship.

Richard is Lorelai's father and the patriarch of the Gilmore clan. Much like his wife, Richard is concerned about outward appearances and is more than a little confused by Lorelai's behaviour. While his relationshp with Lorelai is rocky, it is still in better shape than the one she has with her mother.

Lane is Rory's best and truest friend. Lane is also leading a double life. While she's the perfect Seventh Day Adventists and Korean daughter at home, she is a rock and roll, pizza eating teenager when out with Rory and Lorelai.

Paris is the smartest student at Chilton; until Rory comes along and spoils it. An over achieving know it all, Paris immediately sets her sights on crushing Rory at school, only to eventually find herself depending on the Gilmore Girl as a friend, rather than an enemy.

Dean is Rory's first boyfriend, and the perfect first boyfriend in Lorelai's opinion. He's tall, hansom and has a motorcycle. Unfortunately for him, the heart of a Gilmore Girl is hard to hang on to.

Rory's second boyfriend. Jess is a street smart kid from New York who is sent to live with his Uncle Luke after his mother flakes on him. Jess immediately sets his sights on Rory and does everything he can to win her away from Dean.

After running into her a few times at Yale, Logan gets off on the wrong foot with Rory. Eventually, he wins her over and the pair begin a relationship that will become Rory's most serious to date.

Michel is the consierge at the Independence Inn and later the manaer of the Dragonfly Inn. Having moved to the US from his native France to get away from the French people, Michel does little to curb the attitude and snobbery that the French are so famous for.
